BIM for Infrastructure in Denmark
Much need to be done by all players in the industry if we want to reach the full potential of BIM for civil engineering.
BIM is on everybody's (Designers, Constructors and Authorities) agenda but not used in practice very much. BIM is not being used to facilitate precast design in the infrastructure sector. Things are stirring beneath the surface, but as of now a BIM approach is only in the beginning of its development.
Some initiatives are being taken to put training framework in place, but it is very local and very limited. For now we can’t for sure say what the current BIM proficiency level is. And there have not been set up any performance matrix’ to measure individual, company and project proficiencies.
When we ask top management in Denmark about BIM they answer that this is on the agenda. They are starting initiatives and processes towards raising the level of knowledge. But at this point there are, as far as we know, no companies that have integrated a complete process for changing the work process to a complete BIM approach.
For now, collaboration models in 3D are the closest thing to BIM that we have in the Danish infrastructure industry.
