Novapoint GS Pile Group

Novapoint GS pile group is a powerful tool to perform analysis and design of 3D pile groups. The interaction between piles with various cross sections and design parameters may be simulated using different soil models. Pile group effects and second order moments are accounted for. Loads may be applied either at the pile centre or on the pile structure at given depth along the pile. The structure resting on the pile system can be included such that a complete soil/pile/structure interaction analysis is performed.
• Structural loads applied at pile centre • Different soil models
• Piles with various cross sections • 3D pile group
• Graphical presentation of input/result • Pile usage diagram

The user interface

The user interface is designed to be very easy to use. It consists of panes, representing logical steps within the calculation process. The result is presented in both tabular and graphical views.

3D pile group

The pile group is a 3D structure. Piles are defined at a position and with a given azimuth and slope. A pile may consist of several segments with different cross sections and material parameters. By using symmetry functions the amount of user input data is reduced.

Different soil models

Soil models included are those most frequently used offshore (American petroleum Institute RP2A), and the more theoretical models known as the NTNU models.

Structural loads applied at pile centre

Loads are applied as load cases. By defining a load case with several load steps - loading and unloading may be simulated. There are five different load types supported. In addition to loads acting at the pile centre, it is possible to define loads as Pile Spring supports, Pile forces, Pile spring deflections and Soil deflections. The last four load types have in common that they may act at defined depths at the pile or in the soil.

Control Data

Common control data as multipliers, convergence criteria, ground water level, etc. acting on all piles and the soil is given in a special Control Data pane.

Result

The result from the calculation is presented in a graphical view and in tabular views. A summary of the deflections for all load cases and for a single load case is presented as well as detailed results for a single load case or pile. By selecting the Pile usage option, critical values are plotted in red for all load cases or a single load case, either in a plan view or along the length of the piles.

Integration

The GS Pile Group has integration to other Novapoint products. Sounding diagrams may be imported from the GS Presentation tool as a background and help in the design process of the soil geometry. If there is an existing terrain model (Novapoint) covering the actual calculation points this may be shown graphically in the soil geometry view.
