Designing tracks
Alignment design is a powerful tool for designing tracks both horizontally and vertically. The function includes all railway specific parameters for tracks design, and it is easy both to design new tracks and to edit existing tracks. While designing horizontal and vertical alignment, you have complete control of all parameters and the existing situation.
Defining cross sections
Cross sections are defined by selecting a standard based on local standards. The user can quite easily edit the values to all types of rail projects.
Railway model
The railway model is a flexible and advanced tool for detailed description and calculation of cross sections. It is easy to optimize sub-surface layers, ditches, cut and fill elements and connect to existing terrain. The cross section viewer gives you a complete overview of changes made in all parameters. The railway model can export setting out data to local standard formats and international standards e.g. LandXML.
Volume calculation and ballast calculation
The volume calculation of ballast is run separately from the volume calculation of the railway model. The ballast volume calculation also calculates the number of sleepers and the length of the projects. The railway model calculates all volumes regarding sub-surface layers, cut and fill and additional volumes.
Rehabilitating and optimizing existing tracks
This is a powerful tool that quickly calculates geometry based in survey data for existing tracks, or a middle line between tracks. This function is used to optimize track geometry in rehabilitation projects. This is automatically updated if you change the parameters like radius or length of transition curves.
Switches and platform edges
The user can select switches from local standards or adjust parameters to define personalized switches. Existing switches and crossings can be edited or moved along the track. Platform edges can be calculated in 3D based in calculated tracks. This function reads horizontal and vertical alignment in addition to super elevation of tracks.
Symbols and tools
Novapoint Railway includes a number of symbols for switches, masts and other electrical equipment. The module also includes several functions for setting out data for all parts of your rail project.
Drawing presentation
The railway module includes easy to use and efficient functions for generating drawings for all project data. This includes horizontal alignment drawings, cross section drawings, plan and longitudinal profile drawings and mass / haul diagrams.
Visualization
Your project can easily be visualized with Novapoint Virtual Map as part of a complete virtual model. Complete configuration files for all types of projects are included in the Novapoint installation, and they can be modified to fit your project and be re-used in later projects.
